The Lord will fight for you

With the Red Sea to his back and thousands of his people in front of him crying out for help, Moses looks at the oncoming Egyptian army and he yells these words back to his people,

" The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent" (Exodus 14:14).

It's hard for me to fathom that statement.  This is clearly a problem that has gotten way out of hand, and there is no way Moses can fix this on his own.  Moses and the people of God have no chance against the Egyptian army, but miraculously, Moses can still trust in God.

As the people of God, you and I should have that same level of faith.  Of course that is easier said than done, so how do we get there? When we are faced with a problem we can't fix or control, how do we trust that God is going to come through?

We remember what he's done already. Moses had seen God do so many things, and keep so many promises. Everything that God said he was going to do, He did.  He promised to give Moses a sign and he did. He promised that Pharaoh wouldn't heed his advice without 10 plagues, and that's exactly what happened. He even promised Moses that if the people would listen to his commands, their firstborn sons would be saved from the worst of the plagues. God kept all of these promises. He made it clear to Moses that He was going to redeem his people and set them free.  So even in the midst of an oncoming massacre Moses had no reason to doubt God.  He didn't know God was going to split the sea in half, but he trusted God would do what he said he was going to do.

You can trust that God will do the same for you.  Like Moses, think back to what God has seen you through in your own life already. Was it an answered prayer, a sickness healed, a valley of the shadow of death that Jesus never left your side? Remember those moments. Remember also that Jesus said He was going to redeem the world, and give his life to buy our freedom and then rise again.  He has done that.  When life is difficult, remember that Jesus promised life would be difficult but he has overcome the world (John 16:33).  No matter what, he will be with you always (Matt 28:20).  Soon he will take away all death and pain and tears (Rev 21:4).

He keeps His promises, and He is fighting for us.
